As this comes as a shock to so many of us at this time, I am deeply saddened to announce the recent passing Robert Hopken on Saturday December 7th, 2019.
Robert, or “Uncle Bob” as some of us in the Guild called him, was not only a great friend but an avid educator of fly tying as well as my teaching partner and co-founder of the Kids on the Fly N.W.N.J. chapter. Being able to pass on his knowledge to new tyers and the next generation was something Bob accomplished not only through tying at shows and our sessions in NJ; but through a kids tying session that was held before our Catskill Fly Tyers Guild meetings.
If there was one thing that Bob felt strongly about, it was education and while I will be continuing our “Kids on the Fly” tying sessions in both NJ and the Catskills; at this time both programs have been put on hold until further notice.
It was an honor to have taught beside him for the last few years. He will be deeply missed.
